The Other 'Cowboys and Aliens' Trailer

Back in 1994 there was a very real movie called 'Oblivion', starring Richard Joseph Paul, Jackie Swanson and Andrew Divoff, among many other people you've probably never heard of (except for maybe Isaac Hayes and George Takei, who ad-libbed a number of 'Star Trek' jokes found in the movie ). In the film, Paul played Zack Stone, a cowboy who returns to the seedy town of Oblivion after his father is killed by the villainous Red Eye. Can Zack step up and become the town's new sheriff in order to rid it of Red Eye and his evil gang of aliens?

Produced with a budget of around 2.5 million, 'Oblivion' came with the tagline: "On this planet, it's Cowboys and Aliens", which is comical, of course, because in 2011 we actually have a film coming out called 'Cowboys & Aliens'. Based on the trailer (and the time we spent on set), Jon Favreau's 'Cowboys & Aliens' is definitely not as cheesy and comical as this mid-90s version of Cowboys & Aliens, but credit must be given to 'Oblivion' director Sam Irvin, who actually managed to make a sequel called 'Oblivion 2: Backlash'. So far, the same cannot be said for Favreau's 'Cowboys & Aliens', but we have a while until those decisions are made.

Check out both trailers after the jump, and let us know which 'Cowboys & Aliens' movie you'd rather see. Also keep in mind that 'Oblivion' is not to be confused with the ongoing graphic novel adaptation of another 'Oblivion', which is being headed by 'TRON: Legacy's Joseph Kosinski.
