Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks Talk Starting Over in 'Larry Crowne' (VIDEO)

Do stars get any bigger than Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts? This dream team are together again (they starred in 2007's 'Charlie Wilson's War') in the new film 'Larry Crowne' which opens this Friday. We were lucky enough to sit down with the pair to talk about the film, whether or not Roberts knows her 'Star Trek' and 'Star Wars,' George Takei's amazing role and riding around Burbank on scooters. Hanks tells us all about how he blew the mind of one scooter owner when he left him a little note.

'Larry Crowne' is the story of a veteran who loses the job he loves at a major store because of his lack of a college degree. Larry (Hanks) sells his place, enrolls in community college and meets Mercedes (Roberts), a teacher with a marriage on the rocks who's lost her passion for the job. The film explores starting over, something that is incredibly relevant in the world we all live in today.

'Larry Crowne' opens on July 1st, 2011. Check out the video after the jump.

New Behind-the-Scenes Photos of 'Harry Potter' Series

In less than a month, we will have to come to terms with the fact that there will be no more 'Harry Potter' films. But there's no need to sulk yet -- not when Entertainment Weekly has just released 19 behind-the-scenes photos from the franchise.

Stretching all the way back to 'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone,' the images show the cast in an entirely new light: Bellatrix Lestrange kissing Harry on the cheek, Snape smiling, Voldemort goofing off.

Check out two of the photos below and head on over to EW for the entire set.

Larry Crowne's Midlife Crisis Is Nothing Compared to These Other Movie Meltdowns

Wheee! Scooters are fun! This midlife crisis thing ain't so bad.

Instead of chasing young tail and bandying about in leathers on a newly purchased motorcycle, Larry Crowne (Tom Hanks) is handling his midlife crisis by enrolling in community college and squiring/escorting teacher Mercedes Tainot (Julia Roberts) around town on his cool blue Vespa in this week's release 'Larry Crowne.' (Before we continue, can we stop for a moment to examine the name Mercedes Tainot? Seriously? Who came up with that one? But I digress.)

Larry Crowne's crisis begins when he's canned from his retail job for not having a college education. After he's unable to land another retail gig, he decides to give college, well, the ol' college try. Upon arriving at the school, he's inexplicably cajoled by the dean into taking a class on the art of casual conversation. Because, sure, that's gonna help him become more marketable in a cut-throat job market. But whatever. It's taught by pretty Mrs. Tainot, so Larry Crowne is happy.

Let's hope the 27th year of Fantasia Barrino's life is better than her 26th.

Over the past few months, the former American Idol champion has been sued for wrecking a woman's home, and forced to admit in court that she aborted her lover's baby.

But the singer also returned to the Idol stage in April and is doing all she can to put her career back on track. We encourage readers to submit their birthday wishes to the artist and help her continue to do so.

Coldplay Premiere 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' Video

New clip is a brightly-colored, paint-covered celebration of everyday life.
By James Montgomery

Coldplay's Chris Martin in their "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall" music video

It's probably impossible to measure how many gallons of paint — glow-in-the-dark, high-gloss, Krylon, etc. — were used in the making of Coldplay's brand-new "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" video, which premiered Wednesday (June 29). But suffice it to say, it was probably a lot.

It seems that paint, gloriously splashed and joyously hued, is a recurring theme in the band's upcoming fifth album; while you can infer from that what you will, in the case of Coldplay's "Waterfall" clip, the end result is one that matches the sheer uplift of the song itself. This is a video that shakes you to life.

Filmed mainly in stop-motion, the video follows Chris Martin and his mates as they wander through, above and, eventually, outside a decaying urban expanse, their music — and, of course, the paint — breathing new life into its crumbling husk. In a way, that's sort of like the song, too. Martin's lyrics are very much about the power his old records possess; they imbue ordinary life with the extraordinary.

Aside from the paint, the clip's use of stop-motion recalls earlier Coldplay videos, most notably "Strawberry Swing," but they've always had a thing for messing with the constraints of time (see the shot-in-reverse "The Scientist" or "Christmas Lights" for proof). Their new one matches the exuberance of "Swing" and the childlike wonder of "Lights," and, unlike "The Scientist," there isn't a single horrifying car wreck to be seen.

But mostly it's about all that paint, those colors and the ability they have to brighten everyday life. Just like Martin sings, every siren can be a symphony and every heartbeat can build a cathedral. With "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall," Coldplay prove that they're always on message, even when they're making a glorious mess.

Jen Aniston is Totally Sweet on Her New Man!

JenAniston0622.jpg
Jennifer Aniston is completely smitten with her new man, Justin Theroux! At a recent private lunch date at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Roof Bar, Jen and Justin were both in an incredible mood. The couple "seemed very comfortable with each other," one onlooker told In Touch, adding that "Jen was unbelievable sweet." One source told us that Jen, who ordered a salad for lunch, insisting on keeping the date as cozy as possible.

"It was such a beautiful day that they wanted to be outside," says the source. But Jen "was extremely concerned about privacy" and specifically requested "a private table away from curious customers."

Justin even paid for the entire meal, according to the onlooker, who said that "Justin was sweet" and a good tipper to boot.

The couple's soft side was on display again last night, when they got cozy on a park bench in NYC's Soho neighborhood, where Justin often hangs out. Their majestic moment, which was very intimate for a usually reserved Jen, was captured by famed photographer Terry Richardson. It's no surprise then that they are spending so much time together over the past few days, dining at Italian eatery Il Bucco in Soho and walking around Manhattan sporting matching rings.

Justin is described by his neighbors as "lovely" and a friend of the screenwriter calls him "a great guy." It's clear why Jen is into him... and that his charms are working wonders on the Wanderlust star!

Eminem's 'Space Bound' Video Is 'Tricky,' Jim Jonsin Says

'It reminded me of Alanis Morissette's 'Ironic' video, where she's got her and her two other egos in the car,' song's producer tells MTV News.

Everyone seems to have their own take on Eminem's new "Space Bound" video, in which the Detroit MC commits suicide after finding out that his girlfriend is cheating on him. The song's producer, Jim Jonsin, likened the clip to a movie, and while the video is indeed shocking, he believes Eminem is clearly playing a character.

"Things happen in movies all the time. People kill themselves, people get killed, they kill other people," the multiplatinum producer explained to MTV News on Monday. "When my kids watch it, I like to explain to them in that manner: 'It's like a movie, ya know? He isn't really killing himself.' "

Jonsin, who was on set when the Joseph Kahn-directed vid was shot in February, suggested that viewers watch the clip a few times to figure out the plot and then draw their own conclusion.

"The video itself, it's tricky to figure out what's going on in certain scenes," he said. "It's going to take them a moment to figure out why he did it. It's not exactly spelled out, like, 'I killed myself because this girl drove me to it or she's cheating on me or she's texting some other dude,' or whatever it might be. So you're still guessing a little bit."

Another element of the video that can be interpreted in a few ways is the two different versions of Eminem that appear onscreen simultaneously. Sasha Grey, who plays the rapper's girlfriend in "Space Bound," sees one of the two Shadys as Em's subconscious. Jonsin had a similar take and compared the visual to Alanis Morissette's 1996 video for her hit single "Ironic."

"It reminded me of Alanis Morissette's 'Ironic' video, where she's got her and her two other egos in the car," he said, before turning the conversation back to Em. "I think it was him living in the now as a person going through it and him living as a person who is witnessing it and can make other choices to not be in that scenario. Maybe he would've chose differently, so now he's watching himself."

How did you interpret Em's video? Let us know in the comments below!

'Twilight Saga: Eclipse' Leads Teen Choice Awards Nominees

"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" is the undeniable lead contender at this year's Teen Choice Awards. The flick received 12 nods, including Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy for both Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner and Choice Movie Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy for Kristen Stewart.

The other big nominations for the flick include two for Choice Movie: Liplock (for K-Stew's kisses with both Lautner and RPattz), Bryce Dallas Howard for Choice Movie: Villain, Kellan Lutz for Choice Movie: Male Scene Stealer and Ashley Greene for Choice Movie: Female Scene Stealer.

But there are some other movies, TV shows and musicians vying for surfboards on August 7. "Glee," "The Vampire Diaries," "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1," Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and "The Hangover Part II" all received nominations for the show, which airs on Fox.

Gomez and Swift face off against each other in the Choice Music: Love Song category for their songs "Love You Like a Love Song" and "Mine," respectively. They are up against Allstar Weekend ("Come Down With Love"), Bruno Mars ("Just the Way You Are") and Katy Perry ("Teenage Dream").

Interestingly enough, exes Joe Jonas (who is also up for Choice Male Hottie) and Swift battle it out in the Choice Break-Up Song category. Swift is nominated for "Back to December" and Jonas for his solo single "See No More." They go up against Adele ("Rolling in the Deep"), Cee Lo Green ("Forget You") and Mars ("Grenade").

Voting has kicked off, and for a complete list of nominees, fans can visit the show's official website. More information on the host, presenters and performers will be announced closer to show day.

'Transformers' Reviews: How Do The Three Movies Stack Up?

Third installment of the Shia LaBeouf-starring 'Bot franchise is getting the best notices yet.
By Eric Ditzian

Sentinel Prime in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon"
Photo: Paramount Pictures

We've now seen "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" — during a raucous pre-release IMAX screening that left our ears ringing and our senses tingling — and can vouch for the consensus critical opinion surrounding the summer blockbuster: It's the finest film in the franchise.

That's the overall take. But how do the three films — including the 2007 original and 2009's "Revenge of the Fallen" — stack up when you're gauging various cinematic elements? To get to the bottom of that question, we have to dive back into the historical record.

The Story
"T1": "The screenwriters, Alex Kurtzmann and Robert Orci, don't bother to explain as they go along; they just pile up the bang-crash action sequences and, when things get too confusing, screech to a halt for some plodding explanatory dialogue." — Dana Stevens, Slate

"T2": "There is much absurd backstory and crammed-in explanation for what is going on and despite much of it being voiced by the thunderous Peter Cullen ... it still gets annoying." — Jordan Hoffman, UGO

"T3": "Writer Ehren Kruger ... had script duties all to himself, and he has fashioned a narrative of ornate silliness — which is to say, pretty good pulpy fun." — Kurt Loder, Reason

The Visuals
"T1": "The visuals are the real stars here. Though they grow repetitive, the robots' transforming scenes — joints bending, appendages stretching, gears whirling — are too cool to ever become boring." — David Germain, The Associated Press

"T2": "The battle scenes are bewildering. A Bot makes no visual sense anyway, but two or three tangled up together create an incomprehensible confusion." — Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

"T3": "By showing a measure of restraint and using 3-D to excellent effect, Bay finally enables the Transformers to emerge as players in their own right, with hopes and dreams, declaiming their philosophies of fate, humankind and the universe in grand Shakespearean style." — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times

The Performances
"T1": "LaBeouf has the hefty job of single-handedly injecting the action with personality, and he brings it off, though without offering much variation on his nervous, hipster-squirt charm." — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

"T2": "Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, who are definitely the stars as far as how much of the movie they're in compared to anyone else, both throw themselves into the physical demands of the film with admirable zeal, which is good, since there's nothing else to the roles." — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

"T3": "LaBeouf is highly physical and crowd-pleasingly jerky as the little man and the franchise's centerpiece, Sam Witwicky. If all Tom Cruise consumed were juice boxes of Red Bull, LaBoeuf is who he'd be." — Wesley Morris, Boston Globe

The Bottom Line
"T1": "We knew it would be dumb. But we had no idea it would be so much dumb fun." — Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinal

"T2": "[Though] it has plenty of popcorn moments that can be big, dumb fun (alien secrets under a pyramid, sexy girls who sprout mechanical tails at the worst moments), director Michael Bay's sequel is louder and more illogical than the megasuccessful 2007 original." — Joe Neumaier, New York Daily News

"T3": "'Dark of the Moon' is hardly a fleet production, but here Bay makes his best, most flexible use yet of all the flamboyant bigness at his command: computer-drawn characters and human actors seem to occupy the same narrative for once." — Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly

'Transformers 3' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Before watching 'Dark of the Moon,' check out our handy guide.
By Eric Ditzian

Shia LaBeouf and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in "Transformers: Dark of the Moon"
Photo: Paramount

Before the second "Transformers" even hit theaters, director Michael Bay was already saying no to a third installment — or at least one that would hit theaters in 2011. It was back in February 2009, a full three months before the release of "Revenge of the Fallen," that Bay said there was no way he'd helm a third "Transformers" flick (later titled "Dark of the Moon") and get it into multiplexes little more than two years later.

"I would like to take a year off," he told us at the time.

But whaddya know? Bay not only ended up agreeing to whipping together the 3-D flick in time for this year's Independence Day weekend, but Paramount ended up shifting the release to June 29 (June 28, if you count the many 9 p.m. showings). How did we get to this point? To understand that transformation — to learn everything there is to know — we'll have to travel back to mid-2009: Hop aboard our "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" cheat sheet:

Reworking the Bay-hem
By October 2009, coming off the poorly reviewed but $836 million-grossing "Revenge of the Fallen," Bay had cleared up the release date issues and announced that preproduction on the next film had begun. Increasingly, it appeared as though the new movie would be the first "Transformers" to get a 3-D release. "We're literally in the middle of that. There's no definitive answer," producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura told us about the chance for 3-D.

But the news about 3-D took a backseat to a rather shocking casting move in May: Megan Fox would not be returning to the franchise. She and Bay had previously shared a contentious creative partnership (remember when she compared him to Hitler and he called her immature?), but suddenly the two had parted ways. Possible replacements for Fox included Brooklyn Decker and Gemma Arterton, but the job eventually went to Victoria's Secret model, and Hollywood newbie, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

"I think there's positives and negatives to her not being [in the movie]," LaBeouf told us about Fox. "It's awesome that we get the discovery again. I think when everybody's vetted and everybody's been through these wars, then that discovery of the first film is nonexistent. It's kind of beautiful in that we get a new set of eyes, a fresh set of eyes for the audience to vibe with. So you get the discovery again, which is something that wouldn't happen if Megan came back."

New "Moon"
Filming kicked off on the still-untitled film last summer. It wouldn't be until the fall that it officially got a title. And the reason for that moniker wouldn't become clear until December, when the film's teaser trailer popped up online. It didn't feature LaBeouf or Huntington-Whiteley — or any of the stars, for that matter — but it did make clear the story would be tied into the Apollo 11 moon landing.

The trailers that followed, one 30-second spot during the Super Bowl and a second official trailer that dropped April 28, didn't help explain the film's storyline any further, but did continue to tease Bay's famous action sequences and the new gorgeous girl.

About That New Girl ...
Speaking of the lady in question, who admitted recently she thought she bombed her initial audition, Huntington-Whiteley's co-stars Tyrese Gibson and LaBeouf assured us that the first-time actress has a lot more going on than just a pretty face.

"Rosie is going to surprise a lot of people," Gibson said. "I have to go on record and say that she did not replace Megan Fox. She's a brand-new character; her name is Carly in the movie."

"She completely owns her sexuality," LaBeouf added. "Which I think helps, especially on a movie like this where it's a blanket summer movie and there are certain requirements of a woman in a summer movie."

Rising to Meet Technical Challenges
Director Bay entered new territory on this third installment by doing away with his preconceived notions and shooting the film in 3-D, which, according to him, forced him to deal with a whole new set of filming challenges.

"It's hard with my style of shooting and taking [a camera] and strapping it to guys who are skydiving off buildings and helmet cams," he said. "It's a technical nightmare. You don't even want to tell your viewers how technically complicated this stuff is."

On the other side of the technical spectrum is the amount of wirework required of the actors for the various stunts and action sequences. The specifics behind why the wirework proved to be so difficult, aside from the obvious hanging around, became very clear when LaBeouf, Gibson and Huntington-Whiteley offered a detailed (and highly entertaining) explanation of the various body parts that get pinched during the process.

"Yeah, I don't like the wires," LaBeouf admitted to MTV News. "Really, you can ask any man."

"All the things cut into the wrong places, put pressure on the wrong bits," Huntington-Whiteley added. "Whatever it does to a man, it also does to a woman."

"Thank God I have a bigger ass so when you put the harness on, the ass is able to help you stay away from the front part," Gibson explained. "It kind of balances things out a little bit. When your ass is flat and you have to have it going over the front, it is a bad day in America."

'Cars 2' Parks At #1 For Weekend Box-Office Debut

'Bad Teacher,' starring Cameron Diaz, makes a strong showing at #2, with 'Green Lantern' following behind at #3.
By Ryan J. Downey

"Cars 2"

"Cars 2" may be the worst-reviewed movie in Pixar's storied history, but that didn't stop the animated sequel from maintaining the studio's streak of box-office number ones. The second entry in the merchandise-friendly franchise took in $68 million over the weekend, according to distributor Walt Disney Studios, making it Pixar's 12th consecutive movie to debut atop the box-office charts.

Thanks to higher ticket prices and expensive 3-D screenings, "Cars 2" enjoyed the fifth-biggest opening for a Pixar film ever. In terms of attendance, however, the "Cars 2" debut was ahead of only "A Bug's Life," "Ratatouille" and the beloved company's first feature film, 1995's "Toy Story."

The 3-D fatigue evidenced by other recent openings continued as a mere 40 percent of moviegoers chose to see "Cars 2" in that format (versus the 60 percent who opted to see "Toy Story 3" in 3-D).

"Bad Teacher," the weekend's other new wide release, debuted at #2 with $31 million. It was a strong showing for the reportedly low-budget Cameron Diaz vehicle, which industry watchers had predicted would be less well-received. Debuting the adult-oriented comedy against the family-oriented "Cars 2" was apparently a wise choice on the part of Sony Pictures, which released the film.

Warner Bros., meanwhile, watched "Green Lantern" drop 66 percent in its second weekend of release. A sequel was already in development before Ryan Reynolds hit the screen as the DC Comics hero, but there has been little news about those plans since its lukewarm debut. "Lantern" made $18.4 million over the weekend for an $89.3 million total. With an estimated production budget of $200 million and a major marketing campaign behind it, "Green Lantern" has not done well.

"Super 8" bears the distinction of being the only well-reviewed film in the top five. JJ Abrams' nostalgic homage to '80s coming-of-age classics took in $12.1 million for a $95.2 million total. Coming in at #5, Jim Carrey's "Mr. Popper's Penguins" dropped 44 percent with $10.3 million for a $39.4 million two-week total.

"Transformers: Dark of the Moon" seems a safe bet for the top spot next weekend.

Check out everything we've got on "Cars 2," "Bad Teacher" and "Super 8."

'The Voice' Finalists Going On Summer Tour

Pitbull and Ne-Yo will perform on Tuesday night's show, and judges will team up for a group number.
By Gil Kaufman

Finalists of NBC's "The Voice"

It worked for "American Idol" and "Glee," so why not "The Voice"? The hit NBC reality singing show that wraps its first season run on Wednesday will reportedly send its finalists on tour this summer for a string of dates featuring amateur vocalists Frenchie Davis, Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, Dia Frampton, Nakia, Xenia, Casey Weston and Javier Colon, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Unfortunately for fans of the show who have fallen in love with the chemistry of celebrity judges Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, the stars will not be joining their protégés on the road. Quoting multiple unnamed sources, THR said that tour producer Live Nation negotiated to have the foursome join the outing, but talks broke down over compensation.

Though an official announcement about the tour has not yet been released, both Levine and Shelton have tweeted about the proposed outing, with the Maroon 5 singer enthusing in a since-deleted post, "LevineTeam members @Javstwtr and @casey_weston are hitting the road in July for #TheVoice Live on Tour. Go check them out. You can thank me later."

Shelton added, "I feel like a proud papa with my two girls @DiaFramps and @X3NIA17 hitting the road this summer for The Voice Live on Tour. Show 'em love!" In addition to Monday's message about the tour, Shelton weighed in again on the show's finale, writing early Tuesday, "just watched my wife and @DiaFramps rehearsing ... this is why I love 'The Voice' and more importantly great artists. Life-changing moment."

In addition to the coaches teaming up on the Rolling Stones' "You Can't Always Get What You Want," Tuesday night's (June 28) final performance show will also feature songs from Pitbull, Ne-Yo and Brad Paisley, according to THR. Frampton will sing with Shelton's wife, Miranda Lambert, on Wednesday night's finale.

The show is slated to return for a second season in the spring, with a kickoff in the sweet spot behind the Super Bowl.

'Bad Teacher' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Before signing up for Cameron Diaz's class, study up with our fun facts.
By Eric Ditzian

It's been more than a month since "Bridesmaids" slayed us at the cinema. We're desperately in need of some hard-R laughs, a few gross-out moments that make us cringe, and the reminder that as crazy as we might be, we're not nearly as loco as the folks we're watching onscreen.

Thus, we say thanks to "Bad Teacher" as it floats, on a comedic cloud of profanity and penis jokes, into theaters. Cameron Diaz stars as Elizabeth Halsey, an educator less concerned with math lessons than she is in smoking pot and calculating her way into marriage with any filthy-rich doofus. She meets the perfect mark in Justin Timberlake's Scott Delacorte, a substitute teacher and a guy so freaking nice there's got be something wrong with him. And then we have Jason Segel's sly gym teacher; even though he's got the hots for Halsey, his paycheck doesn't have nearly enough digits to entice the leggy blonde.

But all this is just the setup. The punch comes in a series of outlandish events that, if we were to reveal them here, would just spoil the fun. What we can do is tell you everything you need to know about "Bad Teacher" before hitting the multiplex this weekend. That's where our cheat sheet comes into play.

Getting Ready for Class
News of the film, penned by "Office" scribes Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, broke in December of 2009. Diaz had signed on, but the rest of the cast had yet to be filled out. That changed a few months later, when Timberlake and Segel hopped aboard. Though Diaz had formerly dated JT, the actress had no qualms about stepping in front of the camera with him.

"He's the best person for the job. He's going to be hilarious," she said. "He's clearly a very talented comedian; look at his 'Saturday Night Live' [skits]. He's fantastic. He's going to be so great."

School's in Session
Filming kicked off in March. Nearly a year later, a truly filthy red-band trailer popped up online, giving us a very clear idea of how truly terrible a teacher Diaz would be: "Are you f---ing kidding me?" she writes on a student's test.

While the comedy's raunchiness was no surprise, Timberlake's weirdo of a sub certainly was. As Diaz later explained to us, "He gives us a character that you have not seen yet before — not just him, but pretty much anyone. It's just a very interesting character and a lot of fun to watch. By the end of it, you're like, 'What is up with that dude?' It's hilarious."

The Final Exam
As part of our Summer Movie Preview Week, we debuted an exclusive photo of Diaz getting ready for a fundraising car wash unlike any that you might recall from your school days and also sat down for a chat with the woman herself.

"She's miserable. She's not happy with her world, and she doesn't pretend that she is," Diaz said of her character. "Her pain is real. She's living a very painful existence, so there's no humor to her in this."

Sure, she's a woman in pain. But there's also something liberating about the way she just doesn't give a hoot about anything. "I think that's why people love Elizabeth," Diaz told us at the film's premiere in New York City. "It's because everyone wants to be her, even for an hour, maybe a day. If you get away with a week — oh my gosh! I got to play her for six weeks. So yeah, it was a lot of fun."

"The first 30 pages, I'm like, 'I am not playing this. There is no way I can play this character. There [are] no redeeming qualities to this character,' " she recalled of the script in an earlier chat. "And by the end of it, I'm like, 'Oh my God, this is genius! There's no redeeming qualities to this character!' We got to the end of the script, and we're not apologizing for anything she said. It's a very modest arc."

'Transformers' Stars Talk Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Vs. Megan Fox

'Rosie is going to surprise a lot of people,' 'Dark of the Moon' co-star Tyrese Gibson tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

Much ado has been made about the upcoming "Transformers: Dark of the Moon." From casting to the story line to the 3-D, it seems nothing about the filmmaking process on the third installment of the franchise has gone unnoticed. Thankfully, with the film's June 29 release date quickly approaching, the castmembers have not only been out promoting the movie, but also dispelling some of the anxiety and nitpicking that has surfaced on the Interwebs.

Regarding the casting, specifically the addition of Victoria's Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley after the departure of former "Transformers" "It" girl Megan Fox, the action flick's male stars expressed nothing but love and admiration for the first-time actress.

"Rosie is going to surprise a lot of people," Tyrese Gibson told MTV News recently. "I have to go on record and say that she did not replace Megan Fox. She's a brand-new character; her name is Carly in the movie," he explained. "Her name is not Mikaela, it's Carly," he reiterated, referring to Fox's character in the previous installments. "She's going to surprise a lot of people with her focus and energy that she's bringing to the franchise.

"She was very focused, very classy, very easy to work with," he continued. "I was really glad she came aboard."

Shia LaBeouf said that while Megan Fox seemed a bit overwhelmed by all of the sudden attention she received post-"Transformers," Huntington-Whiteley, with her experience as a swimsuit and underwear model, came to the set fully prepared for what would be required of her in the summer blockbuster.

"She completely owns her sexuality, which I think helps especially on a movie like this where it's a blanket summer movie and there are certain requirements of a woman in a summer movie," LaBeouf explained. "She owns her sexuality and she doesn't shy from it. I think it was a harder gap to cross, in terms of Megan going from complete obscurity to being the sexiest woman in the world in a movie. [It] is a greater leap and transition than to go from being a Victoria's Secret model to then being the hottest actress in the world," he added. "It's an easier transition because she already had that in her pocket when she came to set. She was able to be strong in her femininity as opposed to trying to shy away from it.

"[That attitude] helps everything," he continued. "Especially with Mike [Bay] where conversations are blunt and they lack tact, and you're in the middle of a firefight so it's bare essentials. "

Do you think Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was a good choice to succeed Megan Fox? Tell us in the comments!

'Transformers: Dark Of The Moon': The Reviews Are In

Michael Bay's summer blockbuster has critics praising his deft handling of eye-popping 3-D.
By Eric Ditzian

As even Michael Bay has admitted, "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" had almost nowhere to go but up after the writers' strike-affected, audience-alienating previous installment.

And insofar as Bay and company had something to prove — and to improve — this time around, they've succeeded. While "Dark of the Moon" isn't currently the highest rated film in the franchise, according to the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator, the general consensus among critics is that the new 3-D flick is best of the "Transformers" bunch.

That's not to suggest reviews have been universally positive; many have been as brutal to the film as the film's robots have been to certain American cities. Reviewers have taken issue with poor plotting, weak characters and brain-scrambling action set pieces. But then there are a slew of reviewers utterly onboard with what Bay has created, celebrating some of the finest 3-D visuals since "Avatar" and a story that is the most fully fleshed out of the series. For those opinions and others, take a deep dive into the "Transformers: Dark of the Moon" reviews.

The Story
"A sweet prologue (marred only by a phony-looking digital JFK) recounts the war for Cybertron and the real reason behind the U.S.-Soviet space race of the 1960s. Cut to the present where Sam Witwicky (LaBeouf) struggles to find his first post-college job, while the Autobots led by Optimus Prime and the U.S. military's NEST team led by Lt. Col. Lennox (Josh Duhamel) work in tandem to take out the remaining Decepticons around the world. However, the evil 'bots eventually get the upper hand and begin an invasion to conquer the Earth with Chicago as Ground Zero in this final war between the Autobots/humans and Decepticons. There's more going on, but for the sake of spoilers we'll keep it at that. Transformers: Dark of the Moon definitely has more of a plot than either of its predecessors. There are genuine stakes this time." — Jim Vejvoda, IGN

The 3-D
"[For] the first time since 'Avatar,' I am going to recommend that you find the biggest and best 3-D theater you can find and buy yourself a ticket, because 'Transformers: Dark Of the Moon,' especially seen in IMAX 3-D, is an overwhelming sensory experience. The sound mix alone is more exciting than anything in the billion-dollar-bore of 'Pirates 4.' This is gigantic action we've never seen before, and Bay's reaction to shooting and cutting his film for 3-D is to get better at what he does. It raised his game, and as a result, I feel like we just saw a dare thrown down by one of Hollywood's biggest action specialists: 'Top this.' — Drew McWeeny, HitFix

The Comparisons
"Bay's hammering technique works, in a commercial sense. Executive producer Steven Spielberg is the richer for it. But it's telling to compare any good minute in Spielberg's 'War of the Worlds,' for example, with any of the 153 minutes in 'Dark of the Moon.' The former, which isn't even Spielberg at his best, offers the thrill and the uneasy, complicated spectacle of destruction you get from a first-rate entertainer. Bay's endless love of nastiness and chrome and aggression offers less. And that's the only 'less' about it." — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

The Characters
"All that matters is the long, slow slog to the Chicago-set, theater-rattling finale, which seems to last about four hours. That's not a compliment, by the way. There's so much potential in a Transformer, which can, after all, transform into anything. But Bay misses every opportunity to make something interesting out of his characters; instead, he's content to spend his enormous budget on grinding destruction so generic and visually convoluted, it's often hard to tell who we're supposed to be rooting for." — Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News

The Final Word
"More than either of the previous films, this 'Transformers 3' feels like an ultra-violent version of the two-dimensional cartoon it's based on. I think I'm almost alright with that, when it's done this well, in this kind of summer blockbuster. We'd probably all be happier watching another movie like 'Inception,' but as long as those movies still get made, I guess there's nothing wrong in sitting down with a 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon,' once in awhile." — Josh Tyler, Cinema Blend

Law & Order: SVU Casts Two New Detectives

Danny Pino and Kelli Giddish have a challenge ahead of them far greater than fighting crime on the streets of New York City.

The actors have been chosen to replace a pair of TV icons, as they've been cast as new detectives on Law & Order: SVU, taking over for Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay.

After 12 seasons as Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson, respectively, the former did not sign a new contract while the latter will move to a supervisor position on the show halfway through the 2011-2012 season.

Eminem Co-Star Sasha Grey Interprets Suicidal 'Space Bound' Video

'Even the strongest of love meets destruction at some point,' the ex-porn star tells MTV News.
By Rob Markman

There have been quite a few takes on the meaning of Eminem's "Space Bound" video, in which we see two sides of a suicidal, love-torn rapper. Since the clip hit iTunes on Friday, fans have taken to comment sections dishing out theories about its meaning. Some have said this is another depiction of Em's relationship with ex-wife Kim Mathers, while others likened the clip to a video game. And Eminem's co-star in the video, Sasha Grey, has her own take on the video.

Grey, a former adult-film star, is now expanding her acting chops. She appeared, as did Em, on the seventh season of HBO's hit series "Entourage," and though the two never met on set, she got the offer to star in "Space Bound" at the request of the video's director, Joseph Kahn.

The clip features alternate versions of the Detroit MC, one agitated and cynical in the company of his girlfriend (played by Grey), the other more pensive and calm. "You can read into it a few different ways, but I imagine one character is actually him, and the other is his subconscious," Grey said.

Things begin to take a turn for the worse when the rapper discovers the love of his life is cheating on him. He later attacks her, then turns a gun on himself and commits suicide with a single shot through the head. "Space Bound," like "Love the Way You Lie," depicts a tumultuous relationship in which domestic violence once again is a topic. "Em simply becomes company for her, and she mistakenly takes advantage of that," Grey says of her character. "Before each take, Joseph and I would talk a lot about her motives and attitude. Her ultimate moment doesn't come until the end, so I had plenty of time to build the fear!"

Grey doesn't have a clear-cut explanation of the video, but she ultimately sees "Space Bound" from a pessimistic view — hopeless romantics take heed. "I don't know if it necessarily has a thorough message, but I think it shows that even the strongest of love meets destruction at some point," the ex-porn star told MTV News. "Whether or not you come out of it together and whole is an entirely different question."

Shia LaBeouf Drops By ?The Late Show?

Taking care of some promotional duties, Shia LaBeouf was spotted at ?The Late Show with David Letterman? today (June 27).

The ?Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps? stud looked hunky as he made his way inside the Ed Sullivan Theatre to chat about his upcoming flick ?Transformers: Dark of the Moon.?

During the episode airing later tonight, CBS tells that LaBeouf, 25, goes into detail about what happens to those who butt heads with his "Transformers" director, Michael Bay.

Meanwhile, in another recent interview, Shia discussed his status as Steven Spielberg?s go-to star for his big-budget franchises.

"That's a gift and a curse. Steven introduced me to the world in a way. The man has been incredible to me. But the work that I've done with him, the character variation is not heavy," he told, adding, "It's sort of all in the same vein. ? I've gotta anchor these movies that are in these outrageous worlds, and I have to be as tangible as possible. ? I have no problem with that, but I don't want to be there forever."

'The Hobbit': First-Look Photos Of Bilbo, Gandalf Hit Net

Martin Freeman's eagerly anticipated prequel Bilbo Baggins turns up in character, complete with hairy feet and pointy ears.
By Eric Ditzian

Photo: New Line Cinema via Entertainment Weekly

Although he's busy once again creating a Middle Earth-like world in the wilds of New Zealand, "Hobbit" director Peter Jackson has done an excellent job keeping fans of J. R. R. Tolkien's fantastical creations looped into the production. He's been posting photos, videos and updates on his Facebook page for months — including a few pics of himself in what appears to be Bilbo Baggins' home.

But what we haven't seen until now are official photos of the stars in character and on set. That's all changing, thanks to three pics posted by Entertainment Weekly. One image features Martin Freeman as Bilbo, another focuses on Ian McKellan as Gandalf, and the last captures both Freeman and Jackson in that familiar home.

The first photo is the one fans have been waiting years to see: a real-life representation of Bilbo himself. After all the production delays, the speculation and the rumors about the casting of the central character (James McAvoy? Daniel Radcliffe?), we finally are getting a look at Freeman (perhaps best known from the British version of "The Office") in character, complete with hairy feet, pointy ears and shaggy hair.

''He fits the ears and he's got some very nice feet,'' Jackson told EW about Freeman's portrayal of Bilbo. ''I think he's got the biggest hobbit feet we've had so far. They're a little bit hard to walk in, but he's managed to figure out the perfect hobbit gait.''

The second pic captures, in Gandalf, someone we're very familiar with from the "Lord of the Rings" series but who will be surrounded by a new cast of characters in this prequel story, the first part of which hits theaters in December 2012.

''He's in fantastic form,'' Jackson said of McKellan. ''In a way, his role in 'The Hobbit' has more technical difficulties than 'Lord of the Rings' did, because he has scenes with 14 smaller characters — obviously the dwarves and the hobbit are shorter. ... I remember saying to him [laughs], 'Look, this isn't "Waiting for Godot" or "King Lear." This is "The Hobbit." This is the real thing. ' "

The final photo takes us inside an on-set conversation with Jackson and Freeman, one of roughly a zillion the two are likely to have, considering how long the shoot will last. ''There's no way you can pace yourself for shoots like these,'' the director said. ''When we were going through the schedule for 'The Hobbit,' I felt a terrible drop in my stomach when I saw that we'd be shooting for 254 days. We're only 12 days short of 'The Lord of the Rings,' even though we're only doing two movies. When I saw that, I had to sort of pick myself up off the floor and carry on."

Tell us what you think of the new "Hobbit" photos in the comments section!
