Here's an interesting pairing: Robert Redford, known for supporting political causes both on and off the screen, and Shia LaBeouf, known for fluff, will team for 'The Company You Keep,' a political action thriller that follows a former Weather Underground militant wanted by the FBI for 30 years who must go on the run when his true identity is exposed by a young, ambitious reporter hell-bent on making a name for himself. Redford, who also will direct the project, will play the former radical while LaBeouf will play the journalist. The film, written by Lem Dobbs ('Haywire,' 'The Limey'), is based on a novel by Neil Gordon. Redford's Wildwood Enterprises and Voltage Pictures will produce. Filming begins in Vancouver in September. [TheWrap]
The long gestating remake of the 1947 comedy 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty' may finally be more than just a daydream. Variety reports that Ben Stiller, who has been attached to star in the project, is now in talks with Fox to direct the film. During the past few years, Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg and even Gore Verbinski had been rumored to be in line to direct, with such names as Mike Myers and Jim Carrey attached to star. But the project has been stalled, even with Stiller's commitment to star. But a new script by 'The Pursuit of Happyness' writer Steve Conrad got things moving, and producers Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and John Goldwyn brought the project to Fox after working on it at Paramount. The original -- about a daydreaming pulp magazine editor with an overprotective mother who liked to imagine that he was a hero in dangerous adventures -- was loosely based on the story by James Thurber, and starred Danny Kaye and Virginia Mayo.
