'Life of Pi' Release Date Bumped Back by 'The Hobbit'

Two great books, two long-awaited adaptations, one inconvenient weekend. Now that just won't do.

After it was announced this week that Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' will be released on Dec. 14, 2012, the powers that be at 20th Century Fox have come to the conclusion that releasing a movie on the same weekend that isn't a 'Twilight' sequel is a losing battle if there ever was one. So, as of now, the Ang Lee-directed 'Life of Pi' adaptation is currently set for a Dec. 21, 2012, release date, where it will be going up against a political action-thriller called 'Hunter Killer' and an untitled Judd Apatow comedy.
