From the truth is better than fiction department: Summit Entertainment and Participant Media have launched development of a feature centered on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig tragedy last April that devastated the Gulf of Mexico. The two companies, in association with Imagenation Abu Dhabi, have acquired feature rights to 'Deepwater Horizon's Final Hour,' a New York Times article written in December by David Barstow, David Rohde and Stephanie Saul. The film will focus on the courage of the men who worked on the oil rig (11 were killed and 17 injured in the Deepwater explosion) in the final minutes before disaster struck. Participant has a record of handling issue-oriented projects, including 'An Inconvenient Truth,' 'Good Night, and Good Luck,' 'The Cove,' "Waiting for Superman' and 'Fair Game.' [Variety]
